A Life of Exploration

Stefan Jacob’s life has been shaped by curiosity, adventure, and a lasting connection with wild places. Long before the Stikine wilderness became home, he was drawn to remote landscapes and the freedom they represented.

His years in the Stikine River wilderness of northern British Columbia became one of the defining chapters of his journey. Far beyond the end of the road, Stefan and his family built a home, raised their children, grew food, created their own systems for daily living, and became part of the history of the region.

Life in the Stikine was never simple. The river was unpredictable, supplies were difficult to obtain, and isolation was part of everyday reality. Yet the challenges came alongside moments of extraordinary beauty, discovery, and connection with the land.

The Stikine is only one chapter in a much larger life of exploration. Stefan’s journeys have taken him across continents, including overland travel through Central and South America, Europe, India, and Nepal. He has ridden freight trains across the United States, explored remote landscapes, and continued returning to wild places for the quiet and perspective they provide.

In the 1990s, Stefan founded Planet Products, one of the first fully biodegradable detergent companies, reflecting his long-standing interest in sustainable living and responsible choices.

Today, Stefan lives in Victoria, British Columbia, where he continues writing and works independently in international trade. He still spends time exploring the wild areas of Vancouver Island and the coastal mountains of British Columbia, staying connected to the landscapes that have shaped so much of his life.
