Stikine Wild - The Wilderness Years

A Story of Adventure, Family, and Finding a Different Way to Live

Stikine Wild is more than a story about leaving modern life behind.

It tells what happens when people choose to live close to the land and accept the challenges that come with that choice.

The book follows Stefan and his family’s years in the Stikine wilderness—from their first journeys into the region to building a life beside the river. It explores the realities of raising children in a remote environment, creating a self-sufficient home, navigating dangerous waters, and becoming involved in the development of the Stikine River salmon fishery.

MEMORABLE QUOTE

We didn't go to the wilderness to escape life, we went to live it more fully.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Stefan Jacob

Stefan Jacob has spent much of his life exploring the relationship between people and the natural world.

His connection with wilderness began early. As a child, he received deeds for small pieces of Yukon wilderness through a Quaker Oats promotion. Those tiny pieces of land sparked an imagination that would eventually lead him toward a very real wilderness life.

Years later, after developing practical skills through hiking, construction, land management, and simpler forms of living, Stefan and his family moved to the Stikine wilderness of northern British Columbia.
